MP20 Switcher -
A first look

Exterior:
1. The engine is a rebuilt GP-40FH-2 and so is a Geep from the frame to the
rail.
2. Note, however, that there is only a plug for MUing traction power. No door
control or HEP jumpers.
3. The engine is equipped with an electronic bell and electric handbrake.
4. Notice in the above picture that the horns are place in the middle of the
long hood. It is hoped that this will reduce the noise in the cab.

Interior:
1. The engine is equipped with a standard AAR control stand.
2. Below the Engine run switch is a switch to change the loading of the engine
from "switch" to Road". This very useful marvel of technology provides the same
effect on loading as did the switch on the 436 which was built in 1952 except
now we have a slide switch instead of a toggle switch. We have come a long way,
baby!
3. The heater and A/C controls are integrated into one switch.
4. The Horn valve is now a "wobble stick".
5. An ACSES cab signal system as used on Amtrak is integrated with our normal
ATC Cab signal system in one box. I have been told that
the ACSES system is locked out and won't be used.
6. The engineer's seat is designed with a roller mechanism to support the side
of the seat away from the cab wall which should, hopefully, give the seat more
stability and make it easier to adjust forward and back.
7. The prime mover (a 16 cylinder CAT diesel) is equipped with an auto start
system that can shut the engine down and restart it as required to charge the
locomotive batteries.
8. The air compressor is run off of an electric motor rather that an a drive
shaft of the diesel.
